When can I start?
That depends on our agenda. The activities vary from week to week.. The most practical thing to do is sending us an email with the days and times you are available, we put that next to our agenda and we plan your lessons as soon as possible!
What does it cost?
The prices are listed on the pages of the courses themselves. They are also summarized on our rates page
Can I just come by?
We only work by appointment, so if you come by we’d like to have time for you, please make an appointment by email.
Do you also give advice on buying equipment?
Of course we do! And even impartial, because we don’t sell anything ourselves and we’re not linked to a store or anything. Even if you have found something second hand, or e.g. our DJ Marketplace on Facebook,we can advise you on this subject.
Can I easily park at the school?
Yep, it’s free and plenty of space!
How many hours of lessons do I need?
How much you need depends on different factors, age, experience with instruments, experience with the computer, experience with other programs, how often you ‘practice’, your learning curve (how fast you pick up something), whether you are already a DJ, often listen to music etc
That’s hard to estimate without taking an introles. Think of it as taking driving lessons, you’d acquire a course at once as well.
There are colleagues who advertise with ‘Become a DJ with us in 1 day!’ and all that. We never give that guarantee, because you don’t know in advance how quickly someone picks up the material and because it’s a lot harder than just explaining how the buttons work.
What program should I use to DJ or produce?
Which music program you choose is very personal, nowadays they are all just as good, with some small differences, you might prefer to drive a Mercedes in stead of an Audi, but we both get there just as fast ;-)
The best thing to do is to download a few trial versions and see which one you like best…
Can anyone become a DJ?
Yes you can! We have had all kinds of different people visiting us, even people with mental disabilities. We built up experience in that domain as well. It differs from one person to the other, just like with driving lessons. Whether you become a good DJ, that depends on your talent of course! The school is on the first floor, and no elevator, just so you know…
Can I pay in installments?
Unfortunately, we don’t have good experiences with that, so that’s not possible. That’s why we have hourly packages. The bigger the stripping card is, the greater the advantage of course.
Do I get guaranteed work as a DJ after class?
We can make everyone a (technically) good DJ, whether you become a good DJ depends on your talent. That also plays a part in the question of whether there is work for you, but of course that also depends on the music you want to play. All-round DJs are generally the most in demand.
Do you rent DJ equipment?
Yes, we do. To our (former) students and acquaintances. If we don’t have something, we can actually always get it, let us know what you’re looking for!
The ratio of the combo package is 50/50, can that also be another ratio/be?
Sure enough, like the rest, we do everything tailor-made, so let us know how and what you want!
How can I afford the lessons?
We’ll send you an invoice in advance, it’s got everything on it. You can then transfer that to us before the first lesson starts. If you prefer to pay cash, you can, only we have to deposit it again and pay deposit fees to the bank, so unfortunately we will pass that on to you…
I’m looking for a DJ for my party, can I hire one from you?
Of course we can, we have our own DJ booking agency, with (former) students and professional DJs, artists and our DJ bus and DJ Stint of course!
Are you still looking for teachers?
At the moment we are provided, but please send your application by email with the title “application teacher” and tell you what your experience is and what you would like to do with us and why.
Where is the Coloradodreef in Utrecht?
We are close to the Ice Rink, the Vechtsebanen, on the old ‘auto-boulevard’ in Noord-Overvecht, Utrecht. Above Sounds Perfect and next to Balorig Utrecht Overvecht.
Will I get a certificate after the course?
If you get your driver’s license, that’s a good thing, otherwise you’ll get fined if you start driving. In the DJ/Producer world you don’t have anything to do with it, they laugh hard when you arrive with a piece of paper like that. If you want one for your bed, we’ll make one for you though!
How do I know you’re teaching properly?
We would like to leave that judgment to our (former) students! On various sites, such as Google+, Facebook, AllebedrijveninUtrecht.nl, Yelp, Marketplace etc, there are reviews about us…
I’d like to teach something that’s not on the site, can I?
So far we have always been able to say yes to that! We love challenges and they have always worked out well, so please!
Can I also get lessons on weekends?
On weekends we often have external things, such as bookings from our DJ bus, that we have to run ourselves, corporate events, or bachelor workshops. If it fits our agenda, we can schedule you. We prefer to do this for people who live far away, such as Belgium, Germany, Maastricht etc…
When can I start?
It depends on our agenda and how busy it is, that’s different every week. It’s the easiest if you send us an email with the days and times you are able to come over, we’ll put that next to our agenda and we’ll fit you in asap!
How much are the courses?
The prices are mentioned on the website, on the pages of the courses.
Can I just drop by to meet you guys and see the school?
We only work by appointment, because we’d like to have the time to answer all your questions and maybe show you around. So please make an appointment through email.
Do you give advice about the gear I should buy?
Of course we do! Equally impartial, because we don’t sell any gear ourselves and we don’t have any affiliation to a store or something like that. If you found some gear on the internet, 2nd hand or new, send us a link and we’ll advise you. We even have a page on Facebook especially made for people selling their DJ & Producer gear, here it is: DJ Marketplace on Facebook…
Is it easy to park at the DJ school?
Yep, it’s free and there’s enough space!
How many hours/months of training do I need?
It all depends on the person. Your age, experience with musical instruments, with computers, other programs on the computer, how many times you practice between the lessons, how fast you learn, if you’re already a DJ, how often you listen to music etc.
Without having taken an intro lesson, that’s hard to predict. It’s like taking driving lessons, you take a certain amount of hours and see how it goes…
There are colleagues of ours who advertise with ‘Become a DJ in one day!’. We never guarantee anything like that, because everyone is different…
Can anyone become a DJ?
Of course they can! We’ve had all sorts of people come to us, even people with disabilities. One person can maybe become one twice as fast as the other, just like with driving lessons. If you will become a really good DJ, well that depends on your talent of course! Do mind our entrance consists of 3 stairs and no elevator!
Can I pay in installments
Unfortunately we don’t have many good experiences with that, so no we don’t, sorry about that. That’s the reason we have ‘hour packages’ which you can buy, that gives you credit for a certain amount of lessons. The bigger the package, the bigger the price advantage of course.
Will I get a job as a DJ after following the courses?
We can make anyone (technically) a good DJ, if you will excel in being one, that depends on your talent. If you stand out, and have your fans, that will definately help in getting one. But it depends on the music you spin too, all-round DJs are the most sought after…
Do you rent out DJ gear?
Yep we do. To our (former) students and aquaintances. If we don’t have what you are looking for, we almost always are able to get our hands on it, so let us know what you are looking for!
You divided the combination package into 50/50, can it have other partitions too?
Sure, like everything else, it can be custom made, so let us know what you want!
How can I pay for the course?
We send you an invoice with everything on it. We prefer you transfer the payment before your first lesson starts. You’d rather pay in cash? That’s possible too, the only thing is, it costs us €10,- to make a deposit at the bank, so we pass 50 of that onto your invoice.
I’m looking for a DJ I can hire for my party, can I rent one from you?
No prob! We have our own DJ booking agency with (former) students and professional Deejays, artists and our DJ truck and DJ Stint of course!
Are you hiring any teachers right now?
At the moment we have enough heroes at the DJ Academy, but do send your application by email, with the subject “application teacher, and telling us about your experience, your motivation etc.
Where is the Academy, where is the Coloradodreef in Utrecht?
We’re near the ice skating track, “The Vechtsebanen”, in the north of Overvecht, in the industrial part. We’re above “Sounds Perfect” and next to Kids paradise “Balorig” Utrecht Overvecht.
Do I get a certificate after following the course?
You’d better have one if you’re driving a car! In the Deejay/Producer world that doesn’t mean anything, not in the professional part of that world. The certificate says something about you trying to improve your technical skills, but there is no official institute checking those certificates. If you really want one, we’ll make you one. Ask any of the big names, if they have one and if that opened doors for them!? We betcha it didn’t!
How do I know if you guys teach good enough?
We one of the few schools that’s not bragging about how good we are. We let other people judge us by writing the reviews and testimonials on independent sites like Google+, Facebook, AllebedrijveninUtrecht.nl, Yelp, Marketplace etc…
I want to follow a course that’s not on the website, is that possible?
Uptill now, we’ve always been able to say yes to that question! We like challenges and we apparently did well with that, according to the reviews, so yes please!
I want to have the lesson in the weekend, is that possible?
In the weekend we normally have a lot of external bookings, like Deejay bookings with our DJ truck, or having to spin ourselves, corporate events, or bachelor party workshops etc. If it fits our agenda, we can fit you in. We prefer doing that for people who live really far away, like Belgium, Germany, Maastricht, Groningen etc.
I’d like to come over to study at your academy for one year or maybe even two, is that possible?
Everything is possible at our academy. But we’re not a regular academy, all DJ Academies are private schools. So if you live outside the EU, it’s most of the times hard to get a visa for longer than 3 months. So visa wise, that’s normally not happening for outside EU-ers. If you live inside the EU, we can make a course custom made for you, so let us know what you want to learn!
Can you help me with getting a visa?
Because we are a private school, just like all DJ Academies, we are not able to help you with this, we’re sorry. The only thing we can do is, send you a letter by email, in which we tell that you have the intention of following a course at our Academy.
