Learn how to become a Deejay and Producer. We have 2 summer camps this year, a Deejay/Producer summer course and a Producer summer course. Utrecht is only 30minutes from Amsterdam, so ideal for visiting the home of the Amsterdam Dance Event too.

DJ Summer School

Ever been on summer camp abroad?

The allround version of the DJ Summer School. 4 weeks of teaching, starting on the 6th of July, in beat matching, turntablism, basic piano lessons, music production and performance with Ableton Live and much more!

This year maybe in August too!

DJ Summer School includes:

What do you need to do?

  • Apply for our DJ Summer Camp by sending an email with the contact form on the website (stating your name, address, country, date of birth) and stating “DJ Summer School Application” as the subject.
  • Bring your laptop & headphones (you can only join, if you have a laptop!!)
  • Book a flight and accomodation
  • Check if you need a visa
  • Pay in advance, that is your confirmation!
  • Come over to Holland (the Netherlands), home of the best DJ’s in the world, like Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Hardwell, Nicky Romero and so on…

Starting date of the DJ Summer School in 2022 is…

An exclusive intensive course 5hrs/day 5days/week for 4 weeks in a row. So 100 hrs of teaching! Again there will only be 8 places available in 2022.

Total investment for our awesome DJ Summer Camp (in 2022): €2400,- per person including VAT.

ALL of the lessons will be in English (So you’re English has to be good enough!) between 11.00h and 18.00h

Why do we use Ableton Live in the summer school?

At the DJ Summer School we use Ableton Live, it is the leading program, in performing live with software. But not only for live performance, for music production it’s one of the most popular ones too, especially for doing remixes (also live again)!

You can use the trial version of Ableton Live for 30 days without any restrictions. So if you don’t want to buy the software straight away, no problem. Wait with activating your trial until you start with the DJ Summer School, so you can use it there to the fullest! And as a student of the summer school, you get a big discount if you want to buy Ableton!

Ableton Live was launched in 2001 from Berlin, as an alternative for the existing programs, with the big difference that it works with loops, which adapt themselves (for a great deal), automatically to the track you’re working in. The loops you make and collect in the beginning, are easily put in the timeline to build a track straight away.

Pros

  • Easy to make music with (without music knowledge)
  • Build to easily time stretch audio “on the fly”, very handy for DJ’s too
  • Clear layout, simple to use
  • Ideal for live performances and for loop-based music, like EDM and Techno etc
  • Used by DJ’s as well, like they’re using Traktor or even together!
  • Used a lot to do remixes

Cons

  • Mixer is a little limited and less versatile than in other programs.
  • Recording audio is not really intuitive
  • Layout is a bit simple, not a lot of color
  • Automation doesn’t really work smoothly

These artists work with Ableton Live: DJ MAG top 100 5x nr1. Armin van Buuren, Skrillex, Coldcut, Daft Punk, DJ Krush, Sasha, John Digweed, Richie Hawtin, Nine inch nails, etc.

Available in 3 versions: Intro, Standard and Suite. At the Dutch DJ Academy you get a little more than 40% off the retail price, if you follow a long course like the DJ Summer School.

And possibilities!

  • Cancellations and rescheduling are only free of costs by calling by phone until 1 week before the start of the summer school, minus the start-up fee of €300,-.
  • The Dutch DJ Summer School has to be paid in full and in advance.
  • All prices on the site are per person and incl. VAT
  • The DJ Summer Camp will only start with a minimum of applicants of 4, so let the world know you’re joining on social media!
  • If for any reason there aren’t enough applicants, you get a full refund or the possibility to reschedule to another month or year.
  • Taking part in the Deejay Utrecht Summer School without a laptop is not possible, would you take guitar lessons without a guitar?
  • Of course we also give advice about buying DJ/Producer gear.
  • Please be on time, otherwise you’ll have to wait for the next lesson to start to get in again!
  • It’s for ‘beginners’.
  • For all ages, from 18 until 80! Below 18 is only possible with approval of the parents and parts of the surprises are only 18+ (not X-rated, just age related)!
